History

After three years of planning and searching, the YMCA Sibu finally managed to buy a 12 acre fruit garden at Jalan Kasturi, 33KM off Jalan Oya, Sibu in 1993. Other international brother associations were consulted on the design and management of the camp. The camp is surrounded by beautiful green virgin forest with Pasai Siong River meandering around it. The air is cool and clean, made more welcoming by the singing birds, the chattering of insects and the sweet fragrance of exotic flowers; it's indeed an ideal place for recreation and training seminars. The earth breaking ceremony of YMCA Youth Camp was officiated by Y.B. Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr. Wong Soon Kai and attended by distinguished foreign and local guests on 27th February 1994.

The construction of the first phase of this camp commenced in September of the same and was targeted to complete by August in 1996 for the International Youth Camp. On the 13th of April 1996, the first phase of the camp was completed and declared open by the then Chief Minister Y.A.B Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr.) Haji Abdul Taib Bin Mahmud. The camp then has two distinct zones, the sports and recreation zone for the day picnickers, and the seminar and training zone. The name was then changed to Sibu YMCA Camp Resort with the inspiration of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister with the intention to humbly contribution towards the development of the tourist industry in the state.

The recreation and sports zone then boosts 5 gazeboes, 1 basketball court, a multi-usage court of tennis, netball and volleyball, 10 picnic pits, a fish pond, a canteen, a 1 km jogging track, one set of open-air keep-fit station, open air camp area and a natural river swimming area. The seminar training and accommodation zone whereas boost a fully air-conditioned main building with a multi-purpose hall with a seating capacity of 600 people and banquet for 400 people, hostel facilities for 240 people, 4 seminar rooms of capacity of 100people each, a fully equipped kitchen, a dining hall for 300 people, a KTV facilities, 5 phone and fax lines, an outdoor drilling field, an aerobics dance field for 1000 people, a grandstand and a mini hotel of 24 rooms complete with attached bathrooms and toilets, 2 queen-size beds in each room, colour TV, telephone, 2 chalets of 3 bedrooms complete with a sitting room and kitchen, compared to Ekrans Delima Resort standard in Pulau Langkawi. The whole campsite is brightly lit and enhanced with outdoor piped music and P.A. system.

The total construction cost of the entire site is about RM3,000,000.00.
